    Outstanding academic work during the spring semester has earned listings on the President's Honor Roll and the Deans' Honor Roll for students at East Central University.

    Students must complete at least 12 credit hours during the semester to be included on either honor roll. They cannot receive an "I" for incomplete work.

    Outstanding students in East Central University's Human Resources Department have been recognized for their achievements with scholarships and awards during a year-end ceremony.

    Recipients of the Richard E. Baumgartner Scholarship Award, which honors the late chair of the Human Resources Department, were Parker Kempf of Oklahoma City, winner of the graduate student award, and Samantha Moreno of Marietta, selected for the undergraduate award.

    University of Oklahoma public radio station KGOU is moving down the radio dial to 97.9 FM in the Ada area, beginning on Monday, June 2. KGOU has been broadcasting in Ada at 98.1 FM from a 250-watt translator station that signed on the air last September.

    A three-day Hostage/Crisis Negotiation Training Seminar designed for both mental health and law enforcement professionals who consult with law enforcement will be offered July 11-13 by East Central University's Tribal Police Training Program, the ECU Psychology Department and the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET).

    East Central University's version of the Academy Awards lit up a rainy night as the Caton family walked off with duplicate awards at the Communication Department Awards Banquet at the end of the spring semester.

    The first recipients of the Dennis Boe Piano Scholarship at East Central University are senior piano majors Kenny Antwine of Ardmore and Jaime Jones of Sulphur. They will share the $500 award. Both were piano students of Boe when they began their undergraduate work at ECU. Boe, who died unexpectedly in 2005, often accompanied choral groups and performed for numerous university and community events. He came to ECU in 1982 and had been director of ECU's Scholastic Honors Program since 1989.

    Their lives are very different from their grandparents' experiences under socialism, and sometimes that can cause a few generational problems, said the 10 Ukrainian college students who just completed a month-long exchange visit at East Central University.

    The young women, all 19 or 20, were just toddlers when Ukraine established its independence in 1991 after the breakup of the Soviet Union.
