    ADA – The East Central University Honors Program will present “Searching for Natural Darkness in an Age of Artificial Light’ on Monday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m. at the Raymond J. Estep Multimedia Room in the Bill S. Cole University Center.

    The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature Dr. Paul Bogard, from James Madison University, presenting his findings on the effects of light pollution and selections from his latest book The End of Night. Following the presentation, ECU’s Dr. Carl Rutledge will host a night sky viewing with telescopes.

    ADA – The East Central University Brandon Whitten Institute and Pontotoc County Drug Free Coalition has received a $625,000 grant for five years ($125,000 each year) to involve and engage the campus and Ada community in preventing substance abuse among youth.

    The grant came through the Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Support Program, of the Office of National Drug Control Policy.

    ADA - Dr. Doug Watson will perform as Will Rogers at East Central University’s 18th Annual Oklahoma Literary Arts Festival, scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 14, in the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center on the ECU campus.

    Watson’s performance, called Conversations with Will Rogers, will take place from noon to 1 p.m. in the Ataloa Theatre as part of the Scissortail Arts Series. This portion of the festival is free and open to the public.

    ECU Rotaract Club – the collegiate division of Rotary – will be raising funds for PolioPlus during their annual Costumes for a Cure fundraiser. This event will occur on Oct. 30th and 31st as Rotaractors dress up for Halloween and ask for donations from ECU faculty and students. Just one dollar can save the lives of almost two children. If you don’t see Rotaractors on this day but would still like to contribute, please stop by Horace Mann 127D (Dr. Newcomer’s office).

    ADA, Okla. – The rescheduled ‘Chris Lane Night at the Ballpark’ event will take place on Thursday, Oct. 24, in Duncan, Okla.

    The event will be held at Duncan High School’s baseball field and will feature an exhibition baseball event between East Central University and Redlands Community College. The festivities begin at 5 p.m.

    A rainstorm forced postponement of the event on Oct. 15.

    ADA – Peter L. Markes, 2014 Oklahoma State Teacher of the Year, will be the featured speaker at the annual Marvin Stokes Endowed Lecture on Monday, Oct. 28, at 6:30 p.m. in East Central University’s Estep Multimedia Room, inside the Bill S. Cole University Center.

    ADA – Justice Noma Diane Gurich, of the Oklahoma Supreme Court, will be the guest speaker at East Central University’s Lou Watkins Endowed Lectureship on Tuesday, Oct. 29, in the ECU Foundation Hall at the new Chickasaw Business and Conference Center.

    ADA - Three brothers – Clayton, Cole and L.D. Miller - simply known as Miller, will bring their mix of blues and rock to the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center at East Central University on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $18 and may be purchased online at or at the box office the night of the show.
