    The historic 1963 March on Washington in which Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech will be reenacted Thursday [JAN. 14] at East Central University.

    Marchers will gather on the Centennial Plaza in front of the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center at 12:30 p.m. to begin a march around campus led by ECU students. Gertrude Bush, chair of the Pontotoc County Election Board, has been named Honorary Grand Marshal.

    Chesapeake Energy monies have been put to good use by some local child care centers, enriching their programs in numerous ways. One of the most recent was a family Christmas event at Great Beginnings Kiddie College in Pauls Valley.

    After four months in Oklahoma, it's time for East Central University's first two Russian exchange students to pack their bags and go home.

    "It will be a huge problem to pack all the things I bought here," Ekaterina Sazonova said with a smile. "I've already bought an additional suitcase."

    Fall semester classes have ended at East Central University and campus offices will close early Friday [DEC. 18]. Offices will reopen on Jan. 4 [MONDAY]. Beginning freshmen can enroll Jan. 6 before spring semester classes begin on Jan. 7.

    Completing a college degree is important at any age, and two December graduates of East Central University are prime examples. Circumstances in their lives prevented Patsy Kay Mills, 65, of Shawnee from completing her education for a number of years and actually allowed Briana Dirrim of Ada to earn a bachelor's degree at age 19.
