Seventeen East Central University students have been awarded funding under the NASA National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program for the 2011-12 academic year.
The awards are competitive and applications are reviewed by a committee on campus. Awards are in the form of scholarship and research stipends and range from $800 to $2,000 for the academic year.

Classes will begin Monday [AUG. 15] at East Central University. Enrollment remains near the record number set last fall, and residence halls are almost full. The last day to enroll is Friday [AUG. 19].

The performer/songwriter who co-wrote “Eye of the Tiger” for Sylvester Stallone’s “Rocky III,” comedians, other musicians and a bonus Christmas program by America's premier doo-wop group are included in East Central University’s 2011-12 Fine Arts Season, along with regular ECU theatre and music productions.
Season tickets are on sale until Sept. 1 for six national touring productions and five ECU Theatre and ECU Opera performances.

East Central University will undergo a comprehensive evaluation visit Oct. 31 and Nov. 2 by a team representing the Higher Learning Commission of North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. ECU has been accredited by the commission from 1922-1934 and since 1947. ECU’s accreditation is at the bachelor’s and master’s degree levels.

Five awards were presented to members of East Central University’s Communications and Marketing Department July 11 at the state conference of the Oklahoma College Public Relations Association.
ECU won the first-place Grand Award in the Video Spot category with “ECU TV: Find Your Direction at ECU,” one of three ECU television commercials now airing throughout the state. It was developed by Amy Ford, director of Communications and Marketing, and ECU students Jacob Sircy of Goodwell and Jomain McKenzie of Clarendon, Jamaica.

An award-winning East Central University graduate who has worked in the field of human resources and deafness for more than 25 years has been named the 2011 recipient of the Distinguished Alumna Award in Human Services Counseling by ECU’s Human Resources Department.
R. René Ryan of Tulsa received the award at the department’s awards and recognition program this spring in Ada. She has been the executive director of TSHA (Total Source for Hearing-loss and Access) in Tulsa for 18 years.
