    ADA – The East Central University Alumni Association has announced activities for its 2013 Homecoming, themed ‘Roary Loves the 90’s, Celebrating our 1993 Breakthrough Championship’, scheduled for Oct. 4-5.
     
    The annual homecoming golf tournament is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 4, with a 1 p.m. shotgun start at the Oak Hills Golf and Country Club in Ada. The entry fee for the four-person scramble is $125 per golfer and includes a burger lunch, beginning at 11:30 a.m. The cost is $10 for those not participating in the golf tournament, but wanting to eat lunch.

    ADA – Those wanting to be better prepared for job interviews can attend a free seminar called “Negotiating the Job Market – How to get Hired” on Wednesday, Sept. 25, or Monday, Oct. 14, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in room 221 of East Central University’s new Chickasaw Business and Conference Center.

    ADA – Step Out of the Darkness, a day of prevention and recovery from addiction, is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 21, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., beginning at the Pontotoc County Courthouse in Ada and wrapping up at East Central University’s Kerr Activities Center.
     
    The event will feature a prayer march, prevention and recovery rally, food, fun and facts, along with a grand prize drawing.
     
    The Pontotoc County Prayer March, hosted by the Pontotoc County Drug Free Coalition, will start at 10:30 a.m.

    ADA – Two East Central University graduates – Mara Richards and Susan Rindal – are two of 12 nominees for the State of Oklahoma Teacher of the Year Award, it was recently announced.
     
    The state’s teacher of the year will be announced at the Oklahoma State Fair later this month in Oklahoma City.

    ADA – Dr. Paul Collins will deliver the annual Rothbaum Lecture on “The Future of the Second Amendment” as East Central University commemorates Constitution Day on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. at the Ataloa Theatre in the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.
     
    The Rothbaum Lecture is funded through an endowment established by the late Julian Rothbaum with a $25,000 gift to the ECU Foundation Inc. that was matched by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education. He also established an endowment to fund the George Nigh Award for ECU’s top graduating senior.

    ADA – Jamie Cluck is ready to embrace his passion while representing East Central University in the process.The senior from Ada has the opportunity, as part of ECU’s Global Education Department, to study abroad, particularly the Russian language, at Kiev National Linguistic University in Kiev, Ukraine.

    ADA – East Central University junior biology student Catherine Phipps is ready to broaden her horizon by spending a semester at Swansea University in Swansea, Wales.
     
    Phipps, part of ECU’s Global Education Program, heads out Sept. 7 and will spend three months in the United Kingdom by virtue of receiving the 2013 Brad Henry International Scholarship.
     
    “I was excited. I know there were a lot of good students who applied for this and it was competitive,” Phipps said.

    ADA – The East Central University family lost a well-liked member with the tragic death of Chris Lane, a student-athlete on the Tiger baseball team, on Aug. 16, 2013.
