    Fans unable to attend East Central University’s 2017 season-opening football game at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee Saturday, Sept. 2, can view the live streaming on ESPN3 as part of the ESPN3 Football Showcase.

    The game will kick off at noon.

     ESPN3 is ESPN's live multiscreen sports network, a destination that delivers thousands of exclusive sports events annually. It is accessible on computers, smartphones, tablets and connected devices through the ESPN app.

    All East Central University offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 4, in observance of Labor Day. Offices will reopen on Tuesday, Sept. 5, at 8 a.m.

    The Brandon Whitten Institute for Addiction and Recovery at East Central University will be funded for five more years at $250,000.

    Reggie Whitten, the father of the late Brandon Whitten and founder of the institute, presented a check for $50,000 to the institute for the 2017-18 fiscal year.

    “I’m so proud to assist the Brandon Whitten Institute and ECU. They are saving lives every day,” said Reggie Whitten. “I know my son, Brandon, would be proud to help as well.”

    East Central University’s Pogue Art Gallery will be the setting for “Color Ink with Zen Spirit,” by Ma Hong and Wu Dan, beginning Aug. 23 in the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.

    The exhibit, which runs through Sept. 6, features 23 paintings with colored ink on Chinese Xuan paper. Gallery hours are from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. A reception for Ma Hong and Wu Dan will be held 4-5 p.m., Friday, Aug. 25 in the Pogue Art Gallery.

    The East Central Music Department will present its annual Faculty Showcase to open the 2017-2018 academic year on Thursday, Aug. 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the Ada Arts and Heritage Center.

    The concert, which is free and open to the public, will feature performances by Mariam Kast White, Melody Baggech, Alan Marshall, Nathaniel Berman, W.T. Skye Garcia and others.

    Auditions are open for East Central University Theatre’s production of “Romeo and Juliet” on Tuesday, Aug. 22 at 6 p.m. in room 163 of the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.

    This is an ECU production supporting the student body. However, auditions are open to the general public.

    The production, under the direction of Vickie Reifsnider, will take place Oct. 12-14 at 7:30 p.m. each night in the Dorothy I. Summers Theatre in Science Hall.

    Romeo and Juliet follows the feud between the Montagues and Capulets, leading to the tragic deaths of the star-crossed lovers.

    Jacey McDonald lived a dream as a marketing intern this summer.

    The East Central University Business Scholar from Blanchard, served an internship with the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder.

    “I had the opportunity to intern in the marketing department at the place of my dreams – the Oklahoma City Thunder,” said McDonald. “I did get to experience what it is like to be and work in a corporate environment, learn how the different departments work within themselves as well as other departments and experience InternOKC.”
