    Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Carol Linder

    ADA – Dr. Carol Linder joined the administration at East Central University on July 2 as provost and vice president for academic affairs. She comes to Ada from New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, New Mexico.

    “So many people ask me, ‘Why Ada?’” Linder said. “I felt very at home here. Even after a day and a half during my on-campus interview, I knew this is a place I could be happy – at the university and in the community.”

    East Central University employees were recently honored with awards, promotions, for longevity and retirement during “An Evening of Employee Recognition” event held in ECU Foundation Hall of the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center.

    Dr. Michael Bay, professor of biology, and Susan Ingram, instructor of mass communication, received 2017-2018 Teaching Excellence Awards.

    The East Central University campus and offices will be closed on Wednesday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. Campus offices will reopen on Thursday, July 5, at 7:30 a.m.

    East Central University student Corey Burton (second from right) recently took ninth place on the Excel 2016 Exam at the Certiport 2018 Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) United States National Championships in Atlanta, Georgia. Burton qualified for the national competition by virtue of an exceptionally high score on his Excel 2016 Exam and was declared Oklahoma’s champion earlier this year. Burton, from Mounds, Oklahoma and a Beggs High School graduate, is a double major in business administration management (with banking and finance certification) and instrumental music performance.

    Kevin Blackwood, supervisor of Field Research at the Oka’ Institute and adjunct professor in the Environmental Health Sciences Department at East Central University, recently earned certification as a remote pilot for Research Operation of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) from the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Aviation Administration.

    “UAVs are useful tools when conducting aerial surveys,” said Blackwood. “Although they're really nothing more than a flying platform, it’s the payload and the operating skills of the pilot that make this useful for research purposes."

    East Central University’s Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) Program is hosting a series of Academic Boot Camps throughout portions of the Eastern half of Oklahoma in the coming weeks.

    The Academic Boot Camps are one-day workshops designed to assist military veterans, guard members and reservists who would like to explore the options and resources for college or training at a vocational or technical school.

    Topics addressed include: choosing a major and deciding on a career goal, application process, financial aid process, academic preparation and campus resources.
