    The Veterans Workforce Investment Program at East Central University will hold a free Job Fair for VWIP veterans from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday [NOV. 24] in the Regents Room in Knight Hall. VWIP has veterans from the Tulsa, Stillwater, Ada and Lawton areas and all employers are invited.     Shae Parmer of Ada, a history major at East Central University, has been elected president of ECU's Rho Beta chapter of Alpha Chi, a national honor society limited to the top 10 percent of an institution's juniors, senior and graduate students in all academic disciplines.

    In honor of Felix Mendelssohn's 200th birthday, string faculty from the University of Central Oklahoma will join pianist Starla Hibler, professor of music at East Central University, in a concert at 7:30 p.m. Sunday [NOV. 22] at the Ada Arts & Heritage Center, 14th and Rennie. Admission is free.

    The East Central University Singers, the University Chorale and the ECU Gospel Choir will perform at 7:30 p.m. Monday [NOV. 23] at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1300 E. Beverly. Admission is free.

    The ECU Gospel Choir is conducted by Dr. Melody Baggech, assistant professor of music. Dr. Steven Walker conducts the ECU Singers and the University Chorale. Accompanists will be Dr. Starla Hibler and Rudy Lupinski.

    East Central Political Science senior Patrick Tadlock, from Elmore City, was awarded the Best Undergraduate Paper at the 2009 Oklahoma Political Science Association Conference.

    Two one-act operas by Gian Carlo Menotti will be presented at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday [NOV. 20-21] by East Central University's Music Department.

    "The Old Maid and the Thief," a comic opera, and "The Medium, a tragedy, will be performed in the Dorothy Summers Theatre by an ensemble cast of Tim Long, Caitlin Gray, Casey Taylor, Aaron Sadler, Leah Creason, Jacob Stavens, Sheena Stallings, Christina Kushnick and Michelle Williams.

    Dr. C.J. Vires has been named associate vice president for research and advancement at East Central University, an expanded position that combines ECU's Office of Sponsored Programs and Research with the Division of Advancement and Alumni Relations.

    The new position was approved Nov. 6 by the Board of Regents of the Regional University System of Oklahoma.

    Area residents can enjoy a memorable evening during the holidays by participating in a Christmas Tour of Homes from 5 to 8 p.m. on Dec. 7 [MONDAY].

    Participants will be able to tour four beautiful homes in the Ada area and enjoy refreshments at East Central University's Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center provided by Ada High School's ProStart culinary arts students.
