    The family of the late Dr. Maria Yolanda Forero-Villegas has donated her vast book and periodical collection to East Central University’s Linscheid Library.

    The assistant professor of English and languages, who came to ECU in 2011, died last spring. She taught all levels of Spanish at ECU as well as introductory French.

    “It really is a wonderful donation and a big addition to our collection,” said Adriana Lancaster, dean of the library and distance education. “Dr. Forero-Villegas was a valued member of the ECU faculty and is missed.”

    The East Central University Department of Political Science and Legal Studies will be hosting a non-partisan Presidential Debate watch party on Oct. 22 in the Estep Multimedia Room of the Bill S. Cole University Center on the ECU campus.

    The debate will last from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. with a discussion on foreign policy to follow. The debate and discussion is free and open to the public.

    Robert Langland, second from right, receives the 2012 Milam Award from East Central University President John R. Hargrave during halftime of the Tigers’ homecoming football game against Northwestern Oklahoma State at Norris Field on Oct. 6. The Milam Award is given out each year during homecoming to a former ECU football player who has distinguished himself in his chosen career. Langland is currently the vice-president for financial services and the chief accounting officer for the St. John Health System in Tulsa.

    Former Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson will be the speaker for the Lou Watkins Endowed Lectureship on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 6:30 p.m. inside the Stanley P. Wagner Ballroom at East Central University.

    The event, free to the public, is billed ‘An Evening with Drew Edmondson’ as he delivers short prepared remarks before moving into a more conversational format with political science and legal studies students. He will also take questions from the audience.

    East Central University cheerleader Alicia Shakelford (center) is recognized during homecoming festivities with the James and Glenna Cranford $2,000 Scholarship Award. The award, which is given annually at homecoming to a member of the ECU cheerleading squad, was established by James Cranford in memory of his wife Glenna, a former ECU cheerleader. James passed away this past summer and the award was renamed in honor of both James and Glenna. Presenting the award was James and Glenna’s son, Mike Cranford (second from right).

    Concert Pianist Rira Lim will be performing on Monday, Oct. 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the Ataloa Theatre of East Central University’s Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.

    The concert, which is free to the public, will feature the talents of Lim, a native of South Korea. Lim has played internationally through Asia, Western and Eastern Europe and North America.
