    East Central University and the Harland C. Stonecipher School of Business will once again participate in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program.

    VITA is a national program, supported by the Internal Revenue Service, designed to provide free tax assistance to individuals with basic tax returns, particularly those with low and fixed incomes. The returns in the VITA center will be e-filed. ECU students, along with other volunteers, will provide the service.

    “Making a Difference in Your World” will be the theme of the night Monday, Jan. 25, as Sister Rosemary Nyirumbe will be on the East Central University campus to speak about volunteerism and how it makes a difference, both at home and abroad.

    The event, sponsored by the ECU Vision Bank Presidential Leadership Program, will begin at 7 p.m. in Foundation Hall of the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center. It is free and open to the public.

    State Rep. Emily Virgin will deliver East Central University’s annual Lou Watkins Lecture at noon Tuesday, Jan. 26, in Foundation Hall of the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center.

    A lunch, which is free and open to the public, will be served prior to the lecture at 11:30 a.m., but reservations are required by contacting Dr. Christine Pappas at 580-559-5640 or cpappas@ecok.edu.

    Tyler Rowsey has always possessed a love for sciences, but developed an appreciation for research while serving as an intern at the Dean McGee Eye Institute in Oklahoma City last summer.

    His research experience and findings will be shared at the Fourth Annual Dr. Raniyah C. Ramadan Neuroscience Symposium on Thursday, Jan. 28, at 1 p.m. in ECU’s Foundation Hall of the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center.

    East Central University received a $394,000 gift from the Sciences and Natural Resources Foundation (SNRF) of Oklahoma during its annual board meeting Tuesday in ECU’s Foundation Hall of the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center.

    Broadway’s Next H!T Musical, an award-winning improvised musical comedy, will hit the Ataloa Theatre Stage for a 7:30 p.m. performance Thursday, Jan. 21 in East Central University’s Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.

    ECU SCREENS opens its spring season with Shakespeare’s “Coriolanus” at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, at 7 p.m. in the Raymond J. Estep Multimedia Center of the Bill S. Cole University Center.

    One of Shakespeare’s greatest works, “Coriolanus” is “a fast, witty, intelligent production” (Guardian).

    Give the gift of entertainment this holiday season by purchasing tickets for East Central University’s two featured performances of “Broadway’s Next H!T Musical” on Jan. 21, 2016 and “An Evening with Molly Ringwald” on April 7, 2016.

    For $50, a person can receive a ticket for both shows which are part of ECU’s 2015-2016 Fine Arts Season.
