Four East Central University professors were awarded with the prestigious Teaching Excellence Award during the Evening of Faculty Recognition late last spring.
The 2011-12 winners were Dr. Michael Bay, professor of Biology; Dr. Marc Klippenstine, assistant professor of Psychology; Dr. Shirley Mixon, professor of Business and ECU’s Director of the Oklahoma Reach Higher Program; and Dr. Regina Robertson, professor of Human Resources.

Boomer W. Appleman knows the ins and outs of institutional organization, operations and governance.
Now Appleman brings that understanding as East Central University’s new Dean of Students for 2012-13.
Appleman replaces Bronson Warren, who was Dean of Students since 2005.
“I am deeply committed to enhancing the personal and educational development of all students,” said Appleman. “Throughout my tenure in higher education, I have demonstrated my advocacy for and commitment to student development and personal academic success.”
Posted on: 29 July, 2012Enrollment for continuing students, former students and transfer students at East Central University is ongoing until the beginning of fall classes on Aug. 20.Beginning freshmen can enroll on Aug. 17, provided their admissions and pre-testing are complete. That day freshmen will undergo a mandatory advisement/enrollment session.A late enrollment through the first five days of classes is also available until Aug. 24.

A three-week summer Russian camp hosted by East Central University will end tonight (JUNE 29) with a banquet from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Stanley Wagner Ballroom located in the Memorial Student Union at ECU. Students, teachers, parents, counselors and special guests are invited to participate.
Students and counselors will present Russian classic poetry, folk songs and dances they learned during the camp at the banquet.

Sarah Harris of Byng, who will be a freshman next fall at East Central University, has been selected as the fourth recipient of the Don and Jane Kellogg Mathematics and Science Teaching Scholarship at ECU.
Harris will major in mathematics with teacher certification.
The Kelloggs established the scholarship to assist ECU students pursuing a teaching degree in either mathematics or science.

The biggest misconception about a car crash? That there’s only one collision.
There actually are three, and the last two directly affect your body and brain, not your vehicle, often with deadly consequences.
Capt. Ronnie Hampton, troop commander of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Troop F, based in Ardmore, wanted people to realize what can happen in a crash if they don’t wear their seatbelts, so he turned to mass communication students at East Central University for some assistance.
“Our goal is to get people wearing their seatbelts,” he said.

Stephen Decker of Whitewright, Texas, a legal studies major at East Central University, has been awarded ECU’s Adolph Linscheid Award as a member of the ECU speech and debate team who has distinguished himself through tournament competition.
The award is named after Dr. Adolph Linscheid, one of Oklahoma's most sought after speakers during the time he was ECU’s president from 1920 to 1949.

The Summer Community Band, which includes students from junior high to graduate school, teachers and professors, area band directors, business people, medical professionals, a newspaper publisher and community members, will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday [JUNE 24] in the Ataloa Theatre in the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center. Admission is free.
“It should be a fun concert,” said Dr. Allen Correll, ECU band director. “There will be ice cream and cookies afterward in the lobby of the fine arts center.”
