    William Colbert could become a hero on the football field for the East Central University Tigers.

    But first he became a hero on the lake during the Independence Day weekend.

    Colbert, a sophomore-to-be and defensive back for ECU, helped save the life of a 7-year-old girl from drowning at Gladewater Lake, just about 10 minutes away from his home in Kilgore, Texas.

    East Central University student Eric Rawls (left), of Earlsboro, was presented with the Bret D. Isenhower Scholarship by Major Kevin Roland during the recent Veterans and Military Appreciation Day in ECU Foundation Hall of the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center. In the center is Krysten Isenhower, sister of the late Bret D. Isenhower. The Bret D. Isenhower Scholarship is awarded each year to those who, by virtue of their commitments and actions, live up to Bret’s example. Bret was a soldier, firefighter and emergency dispatcher.

    In observance of Independence Day, East Central University offices will be closed Friday-Monday, July 1-4, and will reopen on Tuesday, July 5 at 7:30 a.m.

    East Central University's 2016 Oklahoma Business Week, a unique five-day camp for high school students, who form a “company” to learn about business practices and compete in simulated business challenges was held June 5-9. Each “company” is guided by a volunteer mentor from the Oklahoma corporate community.

    “Forget your cares at the funniest show in town” (The Daily Telegraph). Once again ECU SCREENS brings award-winning British theatre to the Ada community. The Royal National Theatre recorded-live production “One Man, Two Guvnors” will screen at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, in the Raymond J. Estep Multimedia Center at East Central University. The screening is free for ECU students and $10 for general admission.

    A surplus auction will be held on the parking lot of East Central University’s Pesagi Residence Hall, beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 8. All items, including desks, chairs, filing cabinets and other office equipment along with baby beds, toys, etc., will be sold as is with no guarantee or warranty. Cash and money orders will be accepted and credit cards will not be accepted.

    East Central University student McKenzie Hudson (right) was recently awarded the Wyatt F. and Mattie M. Jeltz Memorial Scholarship by Jeltz Scholarship Foundation Trustee Chairman James L. Mosley. McKenzie is a biology major with a kinesiology minor from Ada. Upon graduation from ECU, she plans to attend the physical therapy program at Langston University. This scholarship was established by an endowment and is incorporated by the State of Oklahoma. Mr. and Mrs.
