    The Pogue Gallery in East Central University's Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center will host an exhibition of work for Texas artist Ryder Richards from Monday [FEB. 15] through March 12.

    Richards teaches at Richland College in Dallas and previously taught at Texas Tech University. He has a master of fine arts degree from Texas Christian University and a bachelor of fine arts degree from Texas Tech.

    East Central University men's head basketball coach Terry Shannon has resigned his position, it was announced Friday by ECU President John Hargrave.

    Shannon, who plans to explore other opportunities in athletics after leaving ECU, will complete the 2009-10 season and fulfill his teaching duties throughout this spring.

    A hearing on Tuesday [FEB. 16] will offer the public an opportunity to discuss the strengths and concerns of, and make recommendations for changes to, East Central University's Teacher Education Program.

    The hearing will be held at 3:30 p.m. in room 7j of the Education Building.

    The Rev. Darrell Thomas of San Antonio, Texas, will deliver the keynote address Feb. 11 [THURSDAY] at the Black Heritage Banquet at East Central University. The ECU Association of Black Students will host the banquet at 7 p.m. in the Stanley P. Wagner Ballroom in ECU's Memorial Student Union.

    The theme of this year's banquet is "United We Stand to Fulfill the Dream."

    Two of the pieces written to mark East Central University's Centennial will be among the music performed Feb. 11 [THURSDAY] in the fourth annual ECU Faculty, Students and Friends Composer Concert.

    ECU's Music Department will present the concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Chalmers Herman Theatre in the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center. Admission is free.

    Students from approximately 75 high schools will compete Tuesday morning [FEB. 9] in the 94th annual Interscholastic Meet at East Central University. It is the oldest and largest meet in Oklahoma.

    Up to 2,000 students could compete by taking tests in 36 categories ranging from accounting to world history. Many of the students compete in more than one of the tests.

    The next round of helping Oklahoma veterans find civilian jobs will begin with interviews the week of Jan. 25 to select qualified veterans for four weeks of free training and other services.

    The Veterans Workforce Investment Program, based at East Central University in Ada, will begin its next session on Feb. 4 to prepare veterans, at no cost to them, for "green jobs" in fields such as energy efficiency and renewable energy.
