    A Study Abroad Program just established at East Central University will allow ECU students and faculty to change places with their counterparts at two new sister universities in Ukraine and Russia.

    The international educational exchange program was established through agreements between ECU and Kiev National University of Linguistics in Kiev, Ukraine, and State University of Management in Moscow, Russia.

    A mystery in which two women vie for the affections of an opera producer will be presented this week at East Central University.

    "Type O Negative," written and directed by ECU faculty member Dr. Bret Jones, will run Thursday through Saturday [NOV. 29, 30 & DEC. 1] in the Black Box Theatre in Science Hall.   The doors open at 7:30 p.m. The play is free to the public but seating is limited.

    Sterlin Harjo, a young Oklahoma writer and film director, will screen his award-winning feature film, "Four Sheets to the Wind," Thursday [NOV. 29] at East Central University. The screening will begin at 6 p.m. in the Estep Multimedia Center, courtesy of ECU's Hayes Native American Studies Center.

    The last community meeting for the East Main Cultural Arts District will begin at 5:30 p.m. Monday [NOV. 26] at the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce. While the focus will be on marketing and tourism, questions or suggestions about other topics will be welcome.

    The East Central University Flute Ensemble will perform its Winter Concert at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 30 [FRIDAY] at the Ada Arts and Heritage Center at 14th and Rennie. The theme is celebration and giving, using new and traditional tunes to reflect and commemorate the spirit of the holiday season.

    The performance will include all the members of the flute family: the piccolo, soprano flute, alto flute and ECU's newly acquired bass flute.

    The work of award-winning artist Jerry Smith is on exhibit through Nov. 30 [FRIDAY] at East Central University. The University Gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and there is no admission charge.

    Smith has been a professor of painting and art appreciation at Collin College in McKinney, Texas, since 2005. He also taught five years at Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City, Iowa.

    Vicki Bramlett says she's going to buy a journal to record all the great stories she hears about the Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner - not just from the elderly or those down on their luck - but from all those in the community who come for the turkey and dressing or those who hold fundraisers or donate food, money or their time to prepare and serve more than 3,000 people.

    Students in the Social Work Practice II class at East Central University are holding a food drive to collect canned goods for Christmas baskets for needy families. Canned food items can be placed in boxes located in buildings across the ECU campus through Nov. 20 [TUESDAY]. The food will be collected for distribution by the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.
