ECU Student Athletes

13 Sports - One Team

The ECU Career Center is dedicated to assisting our 300 plus student-athletes with all aspects of their career and post-graduate needs. Our Center is located in 108 McBride (northeast corner) of the University Center.

East Central University has excelled in academics and athletics and our student-athletes are individuals who have proven success in both.

The demands of being both a student and a college athlete sometimes leave little time for getting job experience. What the athlete needs to realize is that participation in NCAA Division-II is very similar to holding a full-time job. Athletes learn skills that can be transferred to any job situation. It is in the nature of athletics to impart the following qualities on participants. These personal strengths are desirable in virtually all jobs, regardless of the field.

Qualities Developed Include:

  • Time Management
  • Teamwork
  • Leadership
  • Goal-Oriented
  • Competitiveness
  • Confidence
  • Persistence/Endurance
  • Loyalty
  • Discipline
  • Overcoming Adversity
  • Facing Setbacks
  • Flexibility/Adaptability
  • Self Control

For any student-athlete needing assistance with marketing their skills, the career center staff is available to help with self-assessment, resumes, cover letters, mock interviews, and job search planning. A few of the services currently being offered through the Career Center include:

Individual Appointments
Individual attention devoted solely to you and your questions about careers, internships, graduate or professional school, or making the transition from student to professional. Athletes4hire Program

Athletes4hire.com was founded by former collegiate athletes. The organization has ten years of dedicated industry leading services, including an online career board, career educational seminars, and a hands-on placement service, making it the largest and most experienced resource for current and former collegiate athletes in the country.

After working in the Pharmaceutical, Investment Banking, Insurance, and Financial Services industries, we realized the lessons learned while being a student-athlete directly correlated to success of athletes4hire employees. Athletes4hire.com believes these lessons, when applied with education, experience, and the competitive nature of a student athlete, correlate to an ambitious, skillful, and highly productive employee. The Lone Star Conference supports the program and assists in bringing as Athletes4hire Career Coach on the ECU campus every other year.
