Greetings Campus Community,

We continue to be vigilant in confronting the challenges COVID-19 presents to our community. We also continue to do our part to help mitigate the spread of the virus. Yesterday afternoon, Governor Stitt ordered all non-essential businesses in counties with confirmed COVID-19 cases to close for 21 days, beginning at midnight tonight through April 16. We will comply with the order and close all non-essential operations.

By the close of business today, all buildings will be locked. There are a few operations that remain essential to campus. Personnel from those areas will be on campus to perform specific functions. The vice presidents overseeing those areas will communicate the individual plans for those employees. For example, it may be that one person works in the morning and another works in the afternoon, but no two people are in the office at the same time.

Many employees are working remotely and will continue to do so. This new order will prevent employees from working in their offices. Please get all needed files and materials before midnight tonight. Do not return to your offices until the order is lifted. Communicate with your vice president if you believe you need to be on campus.

Personnel who cannot telework and are not needed on campus will be on administrative leave through April 16.

We ask that you use the following messages for out-of-office notices for email:

  • Thank you for contacting [your name and office]. Due to the COVID-19 virus pandemic, all East Central University buildings are closed to the public until further notice. I will be working remotely. There may be a delay responding. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

We strongly encourage students who remain in the residence halls to return to their permanent residences. Services for students are extremely limited at this time. It is frustrating that our spring semester has been disrupted by the coronavirus and I wish we could be finishing up the semester in person. However, we will do our part to finish strong albeit remotely.

As new information comes to us, we will be passing that information to you.

Stay Safe and healthy.
