Master of Science (MS): Sport Psychology (1080) [Program of Study]

Sport Psychology focuses on the applied knowledge needed in the development and use of psychological skills for the optimal performance and the well-being of athletes. The curriculum is designed to address the performance and psychological concerns associated with sports involvement affecting athletes, coaches, and families, as well as the developmental and social aspects of sports participation.

Flexible online coursework allows you to earn your degree on your schedule while continuing to work and meet other commitments. The program also helps students meet the educational requirements to pursue the Certified Mental Performance Consultant® (CMPC) credential through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP). Graduates are prepared for leadership opportunities in athletics, education, and performance-focused organizations.
Learning Outcomes
The objectives of the online sport psychology degree are to:
- Prepare students to conduct psychological assessments to evaluate mental strengths and areas for improvement.
- Prepare students to develop customized mental conditioning programs to enhance performance.
- Develop skills for collaborating with coaches, trainers, and other professionals to create a comprehensive support system for athletes and performers.
- Create an understanding and ability to complete research that explores the psychological factors that impact performance and mental well-being.
- Prepare students to work with individual and team athletes and performers on mental skills training, goal setting, and motivation using various evidence-based techniques.
- Create an awareness of the psychology and counseling aspects of sport psychology.
Sport Psychology Specific Admission Requirements
- Undergraduate Cumulative GPA: 3.0
- Interview to assess essential dispositions
Thesis
Sport Psychology does not require a thesis.
Practicum/Internship
Sport Psychology requires two (2) practicum courses, which require a minimum of 400 hours for each course.
