Emily Simpson, PhD is an Assistant Professor in the Psychology Department at East Central University. She received her bachelor’s degree from Sewanee: the University of the South, her master’s degree from Wake Forest, and her PhD in Human Development and Family Sciences from the University of Connecticut. Before joining ECU, she also worked as a T32 Prevention and Methodology Postdoctoral at PennState. Her research has developmental and methodological arms. First, she studies psychosocial adjustment in adolescence & emerging adulthood with a focus on 1) internalizing symptoms and substance use in context, 2) social media use and other risk factors, and 3) early intervention & prevention to support development. Additionally, she also utilizes her advanced methodological training to explore transactional models and person-centered methodologies, including latent class analysis (LCA) and panel models, as advanced methodological tools to understand youth psychosocial adjustment in context.
