ADA, Okla. – East Central University’s Dr. Mara Sukholutskaya received the Lowell Dunham Award from the Oklahomans for Foreign Language Teachers Association (OFLTA) earlier this year.
Sukholutskaya has served as ECU’s Director of Global Education for 16 years and has been a member of ECU faculty since 1991, teaching a myriad of foreign language and literature courses in that time.
She has been a Board member of OFLTA for over two decades and is also President for Oklahoma Council of Teachers of Russian (OCTR).
Sukholutskaya has been an enthusiastic advocate for foreign languages in Oklahoma and beyond.
She received the award for her dedication to teaching and her exceptional qualities and leadership in her work. The plaque reads that Sukholutskaya is rewarded for, “her excellent contribution to language education in the State of Oklahoma.”
The Oklahoma Foreign Language Teachers’ Association established the Lowell Dunham Award to recognize outstanding teachers in the field of foreign language education. The awardee is selected by the OFLTA Board upon the recommendation of an independent award committee.
Lowell Dunham was the chairman of the Department of Modern Languages at the University of Oklahoma and the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages President in 1971.
