ADA, Okla. – East Central University’s (ECU) Department of Art, Design, Media & Communication and the ECU Cultural Activities Committee will present a screening of the award-winning short documentary Tiger with Oklahoma filmmaker Loren Waters on Wednesday, Sept. 16, from 2 to 2:50 p.m.

The screening will take place in the Estep Multimedia Center located inside the Bill S. Cole University Center on the ECU campus and is free and open to the public.

Tiger chronicles the decades-long journey of Indigenous artist Dana Tiger and her family. From the success of the Tiger family business during the 1980s to its near collapse, the film explores resilience, grief and hardship as the family works to revive its iconic Tiger t-shirt.

The film was directed by Waters (Cherokee/Kiowa), an Oklahoma filmmaker and founder of Waters Media whose work includes directing, producing and casting. Waters has been named to Forbes’ 30 Under 30 and Filmmaker Magazine’s 25 New Faces and currently serves as executive director of the Lindy Waters III Foundation. Her film and television credits include work on The Lowdown, Reservation Dogs and Fancy Dance as an extras casting director.

Waters’ work has been showcased at major film festivals including Sundance, SXSW and Hot Docs. Tiger, an Academy Award-qualifying short documentary, received the Short Film Special Jury Award for Directing at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.

The ECU screening provides students, faculty, staff and community members an opportunity to experience the acclaimed documentary and learn more about the work of an emerging Oklahoma Indigenous filmmaker.
