ADA, Okla. – In honor of the 20-year anniversary of President Mikhail Gorbachev’s visit to East Central University an event has been scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 30 in the Estep Multimedia Center inside the Bill S. Cole University Center at 6:30 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public.

The agenda for the night includes:

  • Welcoming Remarks by Wendell Godwin, President of ECU.
  • “How it all started…” by Dr. Mara Sukholutskaya, English and Languages, Director of Global Education.
  • “Gorbachev: The Man,” a lecture by Dr. Chris Bean, History Department Chair.
  • “Gorbachev: On the Record,” a lecture by Dr. Houston Mount, History Department.
  • “Time Will Tell,” a presentation by Dr. Alvin Turner, ECU Dean Emeritus.
  • "President Mikhail Gorbachev Comes To Ada: Generation… Students 20 Year Retrospective,” a presentation by Connor Rakes, ECU History Major.
  • Testimonials from community members who attended the original event.
  • As well as photos, displays, a short documentary film and live music provided by Maestro Rudy Lupinski.

A reception with refreshments will immediately follow.
