ADA, Okla. – One week ago today, East Central University Softball made program history, competing
under the lights for the first time ever at Tiger Field. The moment marked a major
milestone for ECU Athletics and signaled an exciting new chapter for Tiger Softball.
The Tigers debuted the new lights in style, earning a doubleheader sweep over Arlington
Baptist while playing in front of an energized crowd. The addition of lights immediately
elevated the game-day atmosphere and created a memorable experience for players, coaches,
and fans.
"This milestone represents more than just new lights, it's a reflection of the vision
and investment in the future of ECU Softball," said ECU Athletic Director Matt Cole. "Bringing this project to life is a truly special moment and ushers in an exciting
new era."
The project has long been a goal for ECU Athletics, aimed at enhancing the student-athlete
experience and continuing to grow the softball program. Thanks to the support of generous
partners and donors, that vision became a reality this year. Installation began earlier
this year, with crews working throughout January and February before the system became
fully operational in March. With the project complete, the Tigers were able to flip
the switch, bringing light to Tiger Field just in time for last week's historic debut.
The historic moment also served as a celebration of ECU Softball's rich history. The
program first competed at the collegiate level in 1995, and earlier this year, that
inaugural team was inducted into the ECU Athletics Hall of Fame as part of its 30th
anniversary. Adding to the significance of the evening, inaugural head coach Ron Miller
threw out the ceremonial first pitch when the lights were officially turned on.
Beyond the excitement of the first night game, the new lighting system is expected
to have a lasting impact on the program by improving scheduling flexibility, boosting
fan engagement, and strengthening recruiting efforts.
With this milestone now achieved, ECU Softball looks ahead to building on its momentum
and creating even more unforgettable moments under the lights.
