ADA, Okla. – East Central University Showtime will present R. Eugen Jackson’s musical production of “Babes in Toyland,” with music by Victor Hector, Oct. 8-10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Ataloa Theatre inside the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.
The musical is based on an original play by Glen MacDonough and is directed by Vickie Reifsnider with musical direction by Rudy Lupinski.
The musical begins in Mother Goose County with Mistress Mary, played by Nicole Henderson, upset that her fiancé, Alan, played by John Roberts, is missing. Mother Goose, played by Grace Sellers, and the school children, Jack and Jill, played by Sam Sellers and Emalynn Russell; Miss Muffet, played by Ava Sellers; Bo Peep, played by Delaney Rutherford; Queen of Hearts, played by Kendyl Blackburn; Tom Tom the Piper’s Son, played by Carson Crisp; and Jack Be Nimble, played by Barrick Scribner, try to comfort Mistress Mary.
Meanwhile, Uncle Barnaby, played by Adam Park, and his two ruffians, played by Riley Neeley and Boomer Hoover, have plans of their own involving Alan, Mistress Mary and Barnaby’s inheritance. The story also features three gypsies, played by Shelby Davis, Brittini Wall and Journie Spiegel, and Widow Piper, played by Nicole Centeno.
As the story unfolds, Mistress Mary finds herself headed to Toyland, where she encounters the Toymaster and his apprentice, Grumio, played by Shelby Davis and Brittini Wall. Inspector Marmaduke, played by Bryce Fitzgerld, is also on the lookout for Alan and Mistress Mary.
