ADA, Okla. – East Central University’s (ECU) Federal TRIO Programs staff recently attended the 54th annual Southwest Association of Student Assistance Programs (SWASAP) Regional Conference in Houston, Texas, held at the Westin Galleria from Nov. 1-5.
This year’s "Together We Rise" event provided critical professional development for the ECU delegation, which included directors, project coordinators, and academic advisors from Upward Bound, Upward Bound Strive, Upward Bound Math and Science and the Educational Opportunity Center. (EOC)
As a vital suite of federally-funded college opportunity programs, TRIO's core mission is to help low-income, first-generation and disabled students overcome academic and social barriers to enroll in and graduate from college.
Wendy Phillips, Director of Upward Bound Math and Science, reflected on the experience: “Attending the COE conference reaffirmed the importance of community in our work. 'Together We Rise' isn't just a theme; it’s the core belief that empowers our students to achieve their college dreams.”
The experience ensures ECU’s staff remains equipped with the best resources to continue guiding students toward successful futures in higher education.
