An Instrumental Ensembles Concert with the East Central University Flute, Clarinet
and Brass Ensembles will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Thursday [MARCH 24] in the Ataloa
Theatre in ECU’s Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center. The concert is free and open
to the public.
The Flute Ensemble, under the direction of Juliana Overmier, will perform “Walk Like
This!” by Ian Clarke and “A Gaelic Offering” by Catherine McMichael, featuring Rebekah
Unruh, Whitney Beck, Sarra Blok and Ashley Branscum. Joining the ensemble for Carlos
Antonio Jobim’s “Wave” will be Rudy Lupinski, piano; Justin Cody, bass; and Tommy
Long, guitar.
Michael Whitmore will direct the Clarinet Ensemble in “The Spinning Wheel” by Virgil
Davis and a suite from George Gershwin’s “Porgy and Bess,” including the well-known
“Summertime,” “I Got Plenty O’ Nothin” and “It Ain’t Necessarily So.”
The Brass Ensemble, directed by Frank Zugelder, will perform “Gilliard Battaglia” by Samuel Scheidt; “Ave Maria” by Franz Biebl, featuring a low brass choir and Derek Akers on horn; “Centone No. V” by Samuel Scheidt; and “Symphonic Fanfare” by Norman Wilcox.
