ADA, Okla. – East Central University Showtime is excited to present, “Fearing the Legend of Sleepy Hollow” Sept. 18-20 in the Ataloa Theatre located inside the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center. Shows will begin nightly at 7:30 p.m.
The original story of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” was written in 1820 by Washington Irving. However, this adaptation, “Fearing the Legend of Sleepy Hollow” was adapted and written by ECU’s Director of Showtime and instructor in the Department of Performing Arts, Vickie Reifsnider. This adaption also includes musical arrangements by Rudy Lupinski and lyrics by Reifsnider and Darice Strickland.
In this reimagined tale, Ichabod Crane, a superstitious schoolmaster, becomes captivated by the eerie legends of Sleepy Hollow and the inheritance of Katrina Van Tassel. His charm with the town's women sparks jealousy among the men, especially Brom Bones, who secretly loves Katrina. When Katrina accepts Ichabod’s invitation to the Fall Festival, Brom and the Sleepy Hollow Boys devise a plan to frighten him away. But their prank takes a dark turn near the haunted bridge, where myth and reality dangerously collide.
“Please come out and support the members of ECU Showtime and ECU students, as well as many from the Ada community, as they bring this version to life on the Ataloa stage,” said Reifsnider.
