ADA, Okla. – The popular “Tigerpalooza: The Bron Warren Tournament of Bands” returns to East Central University Saturday, Sept. 27.
Tigerpalooza was organized in 2010 in memory of Bron Warren. Proceeds from the marching band contest fund scholarships for members of the Pride of Tigerland marching band. The event and scholarship’s namesake, Hugh Bronson “Bron” Warren III, was a 2007 ECU graduate and a talented multi-instrumentalist.
“We love putting on this event here at ECU each Fall,” said ECU Director of Bands, Dr. Nick Meyers. “It is a great experience seeing all the high school bands on campus competing throughout the day.”
High schools competing this year range from 3A to 5A and include: Ada, Antlers, Ardmore, Davis, Duncan, Durant, Elgin, Fairview, Hugo, Kingston, Lawton, Prague, Wewoka.
ECU’s Pride of Tigerland will also perform.
“The ECU band students assist us with preparing this annual event and get to march before the preliminary trophies are handed out,” Meyers added. “A large percentage of the ECU band will be future band directors themselves. This prepares them for future careers. ECU is the only University in the region that has its own marching band competition.”
General admission for the day is $10. Admission for children ages 7 to 12 will be $5, and all children under age 6 will be admitted free.
Tigerpalooza t-shirts will be available.
