Melissa York of Ada, a senior at East Central University majoring in psychology with
a legal studies minor, has been awarded a $1,500 Alfred H. Nolle Scholarship from
Alpha Chi national college honor society. She is one of only 10 winners nationwide.
York's award-winning research, “Emotional Timeline: Expectations Regarding the Emotional
Reactions of Sexual Assault Victims,” was presented at the Alpha Chi convention in
San Diego last March. The convention featured scholarly and creative presentations
by more than 260 students.
Her research is directed by Dr. Marc Klippenstine, assistant professor of psychology
at ECU.
"Being awarded a scholarship from Alpha Chi was such an unexpected honor,” York said.
“I am planning to attend law school in the fall of 2012 and this scholarship has enabled
me to enroll in extra courses to help me prepare. It has been such a blessing and
I am very thankful for it.”
Alpha Chi has some 300 chapters in 45 states and the District of Columbia. Members
are in the top 10 percent of juniors, seniors and graduate students in all academic
fields.
