Interscholastic Meet

This annual interscholastic meet will take place on Wednesday, March 10th, 2027.

The meet serves as a qualifying tournament for the High School Tournament of Champions (HSTOC). 

Students recieve:

Categories

Art

Interscholastic Meet Photography Show

Teachers may submit student photographs for the Interscholastic Meet Photography Show. Each student may submit one photograph, with a maximum of three entries per school. Photographs must have been created within the past year. 
Submit high-resolution JPEG or TIFF files with the subject line “Interscholastic Meet Photo Show Entry.” Include the student’s name, school, grade level, teacher’s name, and year completed. 
Winning photographs will be professionally printed and displayed in Foundation Hall during the Interscholastic Meet. 

Art and Design Competition

Students will participate in a real-time design competition during which they hand draw a logo design using French curves and pencils. Only one student from each school may enter.

Business

General Business

Students will be examined on their knowledge of the general content of this course. 
The test will consist of a multiple-choice exam covering the basic knowledge of business disciplines. 

Microsoft Powerpoint

Students will be examined on their ability to apply skills in Microsoft PowerPoint. 
The test will be conducted in a computer lab using PCs running software to simulate PowerPoint Desktop Software. 
The software will present several tasks to the students and ask them to complete the task with two attempts per task. 

Accounting

This objective exam will test the student's ability to apply accounting principles as covered in the first-year course. Students will be graded on accuracy and competency.

Microsoft Excel

Students will be examined on their ability to apply skills in Microsoft Excel. 
The test will be conducted in a computer lab using PCs running software to simulate Excel Desktop Software. The software will present several tasks to the students and ask them to complete the task with two attempts per task. 

Microsoft Word

Students will be examined on their ability to apply skills in Microsoft Word. 
The test will be conducted in a computer lab using PCs running software to simulate Word Desktop Software. The software will present several tasks to the students and ask them to complete the task with two attempts per task. 

Computer Science

Computer Programming

The exam will include basic terminology, variables, control structures, and the 
C programming language. 

English

American Literature

Students will be tested on (a) their knowledge of the literary history of the United States; (b) their familiarity with well-known authors and works of American literature; (c) their ability to think critically about literary passages; (d) their familiarity with terms used in literary analysis; and (e) their skill in writing sentences or a paragraph commenting on literature. The test is open to Juniors and Seniors.

British Literature

Students will be tested on (a) their knowledge of the literary history of the British Isles; (b) their acquaintance with outstanding works of literature in English of England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland; (c) their ability to think critically about literary passages; (d) their familiarity with terms used in literary analysis; and (e) their skill in writing sentences or a paragraph commenting on literature. The test is open to Juniors and Seniors.

Shakespeare

Students will be examined on their ability to critically read/examine Shakespeare's language in samples of his dramatic and lyrical works (plays, sonnets),as well as some general information about his world. No detailed knowledge of a single play is required for the exam; rather, we want to test the students' ability to close-read poetry for its use of metaphor, allusion, and other poetic devices. The test is open to Juniors and Seniors. 

Descriptive Essay

Write a 500–750 word essay describing a person, place, or thing. Begin with an introduction that identifies your subject and captures the reader’s interest. Use specific details in each body paragraph to bring your subject to life. You may include a short story, dialogue, or personal experience. 

Narrative Essay

Write a 750-1,000 word essay that narrates an experience. The experience can come from your personal experience, observation, or imagination. Compose an introduction that identifies the subject, generates interest, and establishes a focus on the experience. Create a series of body paragraphs that each move the story forward but also provide specific description of important people and places. You must incorporate some dialogue. Your major goal is to bring the experience to life on the page.

Foreign Languages

French, First Year

The exam will test the following: (a) reading comprehension; (b) listening comprehension; (c) knowledge of vocabulary; (d) knowledge of grammar; and (e) basic knowledge of culture of France. 
NOT open to students whose native language is French or who speak French in the home, 
or who have had any foreign residency in a French-speaking country.

Spanish, First Year

The exam will test the following: (a) reading comprehension; (b) listening comprehension; (c) knowledge of vocabulary; (d) knowledge of grammar; and (e) basic knowledge of culture of Spain. 
NOT open to students whose native language is Spanish or who speak Spanish in the home, 
or who have had any foreign residency in a Spanish-speaking country.

History

U.S. History

Students will be tested on (a) their knowledge of the major events, policies, and people in the country's history; (b) their familiarity with the importance of those events, policies, and people had for contemporaries and the future course of history; (c) understanding how the course of history is influenced and influences those that came before and afterwards; (d) and their ability to critically think about history and in a coherent manner express those thoughts in an understandable manner.

Kinesiology

Choices in Wellness

Students will be tested on their knowledge of: (a) biological, (b) social, and (c) behavioral sciences as they relate to lifestyle choices of wellness. Emphasis is on integration of knowledge, attitudes, and appropriate practices related to self-directed positive health behaviors. The test is open to Juniors and Seniors. 

Mathmatics

Algebra, First Year

All students now enrolled in Algebra I are eligble to enter this contest. The exam will consist of objective questions and original exercises, and it will be constructed from materials in textbooks on the state adoption list.  

Algebra, Second Year

All students now enrolled in Algebra II are eligble to enter this contest. The exam will cover most of the material in the typical secondary Algebra II text, but more emphasis will be placed on the advanced topics. 

Calculus

All students now enrolled in Calculus are eligible to enter this contest. The exam will cover most of the topics covered in a basic high school Calculus course, including limits, derivatives and their applications, and basic integration. 

Geometry

All students now enrolled in Geometry are eligible to enter this contest. The exam will consist of questions based on topics covered in a high school Geometry course. 

Trigonometry

All students now enrolled in Trigonometry are eligible to enter this contest. 
The test will cover most of the topics in a Trigonometry course.

Music

Interscholastic Meet Music Performance Competition

Students may submit one recording of a solo performance in any musical style for voice or instrument. Accompaniment may be included if required by the piece. 

Political Science

American Democracy

This multiple-choice exam will test students on their knowledge of the US Constitution and the function of the three branches of the US federal government. 

Psychology

Psychology

Students who have taken or who are currently taking a course in psychology are eligible. 
The examination is over general knowledge in psychology and covers the topics and material typically included in an introductory or general psychology course. The test is objective and examines knowledge of both experimen­tal and clinical psychology. There are questions on learning, sensation, perception, physiology, statistics, tests and measurement, cognition, memory, intelligence, development, motivation, emotion, adjustment, personality, clinical, abnormal, therapy, and social psychology. 

Sciences

Biology, General

Test is open to students who have been or are enrolled in General Biology I this academic year. The test will cover topics common to all textbooks on the state list. These topics include nature of science, history of biology, basic biological chemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, microbiology, cell division, genetics, photosynthesis, cellular respiration, plant and animal anatomy and morphology, classification, taxonomy, ecology, and evolution. A combination of factual, applied and conceptual questions will be asked. 

Chemistry

This test is for students who are currently enrolled in Chemistry. This test will consist of multiple choice questions covering the skills and concepts of Chemistry 1. These topics include significant figures, nomenclature, oxidation numbers, stoichiometry, periodic table, nature of the atom, molarity and gas laws.

Physics

This test is for students who have completed one year of Physics or who are currently enrolled in a high school Physics course. 
This exam will cover material studied in most Physics courses. It will cover the metric system, SI units and conversions, metric prefixes, significant figures, kinematics, laws of motion, energy, momentum, solids and fluids, thermodynamics, waves, electricity, sound and basic optics. 

Physical Science

This test is for students who have completed or are currently enrolled in a Physical Science course. 
This exam will cover material in most Physical Science courses. 
It will cover the metric system, SI units, metric prefixes, significant figures, physics, chemistry, and astronomy.
