For Rising 8th and 9th Grade Students

Have you ever wondered what makes bread rise, how your body relaxes after a long day, or how sunscreen protects your skin? The answer is chemistry.

Discover the science behind the molecules that shape our everyday lives at ECU's Molecules of Nature Summer Academy. This week-long residential camp gives rising 8th and 9th grade students the opportunity to explore chemistry through engaging, hands-on laboratory experiences on ECU's campus in Ada.

Participants will synthesize molecules used in medicine, food science, and agriculture while learning proper laboratory techniques, safety procedures, and how to use advanced scientific equipment. Students will also experience college life by living on campus and participating in exciting field trips to the Robert S. Kerr Environmental Research Center and the Chickasaw National Recreation Area.

By the end of the academy, students will have a deeper understanding of chemistry's role in solving real-world problems and gain insight into the many STEM degree and career opportunities available to them.
