All scholarships require full-time attendance (12 hours for undergraduate; 6 hours
for graduate) unless indicated otherwise.
All scholarships require a 3.0 cumulative GPA unless indicated otherwise.
All scholarships are for fall and/or spring semester only (summer not included) unless
indicated otherwise.
All recipients are recommended by the department, with final approval by the ECU Foundation
Scholarship Committee.
Any exceptions must be approved by the department chair and the Foundation Scholarship
Committee.
BOB BENNETT FINE ARTS SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to a student majoring in Instrumental Music. This
scholarship was established by Sally Bennett.
ELIZABETH BLAKESLY SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to an Art, Theatre, or Vocal Music student who maintains
at least a 3.0 GPA. Ms. Blakesly was a long-time resident of Ada and was a great supporter
of ECU and its students.
DENNIS BOE PIANO SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to a student who is enrolled in private piano study
(Applied Piano) and who has maintained a minimum 3.0 GPA. This scholarship was established
by friends and family of Dr. Boe, who was a long-time member of the ECU faculty and
an accomplished pianist.
BRILES SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded based on need and a minimum 2.5 GPA. Originally established
as a part of the Federal Student Loan Program, this scholarship was transferred to
the ECU Foundation in 1995.
FAUST MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding Music student at the discretion
of the Music department. Mrs. Faust was an accomplished pianist and teacher and Mr.
Faust was a member of a male quartet which performed extensively during the 1940s
and 1950s. He also served as registrar at ECU for several years and was a founding
member of the ECU Foundation.
HARVEY AND MARY BELLA FAUST MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to gifted and talented Music students who need financial
assistance. Mary Bella Faust was an accomplished pianist and teacher and Harvey Faust
was a member of a male quartet which performed extensively during the 1940s and 1950s. He
also served as registrar at ECU for several years.
MARY BELLA FAUST PIANO SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to a student majoring in Piano who shows exceptional
talent and discipline. Additional guidelines may be obtained from the Music department.
This scholarship was established by an anonymous donor who is an accomplished composer
and musician, and who understands the value of music in society.
KEVIN FEUERBORN BAND SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to current members of the ECU Pride of Tigerland
Marching Band. Preference will be given to students classified as a sophomore or
second year band member. The recipient is not required to have a declared major with
music, but must have a minimum 2.0 GPA within their declared major. The scholarship
will be awarded each fall semester only. This scholarship is made possible by former
Pride of Tigerland member Kevin Feuerborn, a 1994 ECU Alum with a degree in Environmental
Health Science.
JEFF AND DORIS FREDERICK PIANO AND VOCAL MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to students majoring in Piano or Vocal Music. Mr.
and Mrs. Frederick were both music educators at East Central University. This scholarship
was established by friends, family and former students in memory of Mr. Frederick.
MARGUERITE HAWKINSON SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to a junior student majoring in Vocal Music in either
education or performance.
HIGGINBOTHAM FAMILY MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to a junior Music student with the highest overall
grade point average. In the case of a tie, the department will make the final decision. Dorothy
Higginbotham was an ECU alumna who understood and recognized the value of higher education and
established this scholarship as part of her estate planning.
JERRY HOWARD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded at the discretion of the Music department. Friends
and family of Jerry Howard established this scholarship in his memory; he was an accomplished
musician, band director, and owner of Howard Music Store in Ada.
ED AND LATRICIA HUCKEBY OUTSTANDING INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding instrumental music student selected
each spring by a committee composed of the full-time instrumental music faculty chaired
by the Director of Bands. Dr. and Mrs. Huckeby attended ECU in the late 1960's and
were members of the ECU Band under Professor Don Gant. Ed completed his BAEd in instrumental
music in 1970 and has since been involved in music education as a high school and
university band director, music department chairman, band clinician and internationally
recognized composer of band music, in addition to having an extensive career in higher
education administration. Ed and Latricia are passionate about supporting the ECU
instrumental music program.
AYLINE JOHNSON SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded at the discretion of the department. Ayline Johnson
was an accomplished organist, and this scholarship was established in her memory by
family and friends.
GERALDINE KERR MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded at the discretion of the Music department.
KATE KNIGHT FINE ARTS SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded at the discretion of the department. Knight Hall
on the ECU campus was named after Ms. Knight.
RUDY LUPINSKI MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded at the discretion of the department. Rudy Lupinski
has been described as one of the most selfless individuals. "His whole being, his
entire existence, is in worshipping God in Jesus Christ and in helping and loving
his fellow man". Rudy has worked tirelessly with faculty and students in various
musical productions over forty years at East Central University as well as being involved
in other musical productions in the Ada Area including Act II, Ada Arts Council, Hanging
of the Green's at FUMC, and other community events. He has been referred to as "The
Music Man" in the Ada Hub Magazine. Rudy is also the Music Director at St. Joseph
Catholic Church and composes music with Victoria Davison as Davison-Lupinski, Composers.
This scholarship was established anonymously as to not take away from the true intention,
to honor Rudy Lupinski.
RUDY LUPINSKI ACT II HONORARY SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to a student who has been involved in both ACT II
and ECU Musical Theatre within the past year (including summer productions). The recipient
can be an actor/actress, stage manager, musician, set designer, camp counselor, or
involved with sound and lighting. The recipient must be a current ECU student maintaining
at least a 2.5 GPA and someone who represents both ECU and ACT II in a professional
manner.
NORMA MILLSAP MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to a student with a declared major of music study
with a preferred concentration of piano. The recipient must be classified as a junior
or senior and maintain a 3.0 or above cumulative GPA. Preference will be given to
students that graduated from an Oklahoma high school in one of the following counties:
Garvin, Hughes, Murray, Pontotoc, or Seminole. Ms. Millsap was a beloved piano teacher
and this scholarship was established by her family to continue her legacy and love
of the piano.
MORGAN FAMILY FOUNDATION MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to a student in his/her semester of student teaching.
The Morgan Family has made numerous contributions to the ECU Foundation and continues
to be a big supporter of the Fine Arts.
FINIS MORRISON SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding student providing leadership in
the Humanities area. Scholarships will be available in the areas of Drama, Instrumental
Music, Vocal Music, and Piano.
JANE MUNTZ FRESHMEN/SOPHOMORE MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to a freshman or sophomore level student majoring
in Music to reward academic excellence. Mrs. Muntz established this scholarship because
of her love of music and her interest in ECU students. She graduated from ECU in 1941
with a degree in Music.
JANE MUNTZ JUNIOR/SENIOR MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to a junior or senior level student student majoring
in Music to reward academic excellence. Mrs. Muntz established this scholarship because
of her love of music and her interest in ECU students. She graduated from ECU in 1941
with a degree in Music.
LINDA MURRAY FLUTE SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding Flute student. Linda Murray was
an accomplished musician and instructor of flute at ECU and this scholarship was established
in her memory by her husband Duane Murray.
OSCAR AND KATHRYN PARKER MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to Music majors in the Piano, Vocal, or Instrumental
areas based on contribution to the program and above-average academic work. Oscar
Parker was a member of an ECU quartet, which performed extensively during the 1940s
and 1950s, and he was also a founding member of the ECU Foundation, Inc. in 1970.
ESSIE ROARK MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to students within the Department of Music The recipient's
GPA must be a 3.0 or above and he/she must be enrolled full-time at East Central University.
This scholarship is awarded at the discretion of the College of Liberal Arts and Social
Sciences Scholarship Committee, or their chosen designee, and can be used for fall,
spring, and/or summer semesters.
JUSTICE DUSTIN AND NICOLE ROWE SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded in the fall semester to a student with a declared
major in Music and awarded in the spring semester to a student with a declared major
in Early Childhood Education. Dustin and Nicole Rowe are both graduates of ECU.
They believe strong Music and Early Childhood programs are crucial to students' success.
JAMES SAIED BAND SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to students who have shown the most progress during
the current academic year. Consideration will be given to the student's character,
personality, and general contribution to the Music program. Mr. Saied graduated in
1936, and was honored as a Distinguished Alumnus in 1990.
W. BURGESS STEED SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded at the discretion of the department. This scholarship
was established by James B. Steed.
CLEO SUMTER MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded at the discretion of the department. Ms. Sumter was
an ECU alumna and established this scholarship as part of her estate planning.
JOANNE ADAM LAMBERT TODD MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding Music student at the discretion
of the department. Dr. Todd was an excellent, long-time supporter of the arts and
this scholarship was established in her memory by a close friend.
CHARLES TRACY MUSIC AWARD
This scholarship will be awarded each spring to a Music major excelling in scholastic
achievement in the areas of Music Theory and Music History. Mr. Tracy was a former
professor at ECU and an excellent pianist. This scholarship was established in his
memory by friends, family, and former students.
ALINE K. TRISLER MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding Music student as determined by
the department.
STEVE WALKER MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded at the discretion of the department or may be used
for travel expenses for the ECU Chorale. Dr. Walker has been a long-time professor
at ECU and has excelled in the area of Vocal Music; this scholarship was established
by a close friend and fellow music enthusiast.
BRON WARREN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded at the discretion of ECU's Band Director. Bron Warren
was an ECU alumnus and an accomplished musician. This scholarship was established
by his family and friends and is supported annually through a regional band contest,
“Tigerpalooza".
