Early Childhood Education at ECU

Students majoring in Early Childhood Education focus on the development and education of young children—from nursery school through third grade. This program leads to Oklahoma state certification for teaching at the early childhood level.


What You’ll Learn

The program helps students:

  • Understand the unique needs and characteristics of young children
  • Learn how to assess developmental skills in early learners
  • Plan and implement age-appropriate learning activities

Academic Requirements

Early Childhood Education majors complete 12 credit hours each in:

  • Science
  • Mathematics
  • Social Studies
  • Language Arts

Hands-On Experience

Students gain valuable, real-world experience by working with pre-K through 3rd grade students both before and during the student teaching phase of the program.
