State Authorization

East Central University (ECU) offers distance learning opportunities to students across the United States. In accordance with U.S. Department of Education regulation 34 C.F.R. § 600.9, ECU must obtain authorization from each state where our distance education programs are offered and comply with that state’s regulations.

NC-SARA Participation

ECU participates in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA). NC-SARA is a voluntary agreement among member states and U.S. territories that establishes comparable national standards for interstate offering of postsecondary distance education. Its goal is to make it easier for students to take online courses offered by institutions based in another state.
