ADA, Okla. – The 2024 edition of East Central University’s long-standing literary journal, “Originals,” and this year’s student editors, are set to be showcased on April 17 at 4 p.m. inside the Linscheid Library on the ECU campus.

“Originals” is an annual literary journal that has been a fixture of ECU since the 1950’s. The journal offers students from any department across campus an opportunity to submit their writings or artwork for potential publication.

Submissions in poetry, short stories, novel chapters, lyrics, artwork and more are considered and accepted. Thousands of students have been featured in Originals over the decades.

Each year, students are chosen to serve as editors for the journal. For the 2024 edition, Gracie Pillow, a Studio Arts major, Rose Anderson, an English major and Lauren George, a Graphic Design major, were selected.

“The 2024 editors did outstanding work,” said Dr. Mark Walling, faculty advisor for the journal. “They worked with the visual artists to imagine a unified design for the front and back covers, creating one of the most unique appearances in the magazine's long history.”

This year there are 28 student writers and artists featured in “Originals.” Copies will be available for $5 during the event.
