An informational meeting about a proposal to ask the city to close portions of two streets adjacent to East Central University's Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center will be held Tuesday [JAN. 15] at the Source, 730 E. Main.

The come-and-go meeting will be from 4 to 6 p.m., said Bridget Forshay, community development coordinator of the East Main Cultural Arts District. Refreshments will be available.

EMCAD representatives are exploring ways to create an arts district along Main Street.

"We would like to talk with individuals about a proposal to close two street segments as one of the outcomes of the first four community forums we held," Forshay said. "The purpose of the closures is to create a plaza area that will be permanently free from traffic, except emergency vehicles and maintenance crews, so we can have festivals, music performances, art fairs and other outdoor activities for the arts district."

One of the segments is on East Main between Center and Francis Streets, across from the Horace Mann Building, and the other is around the corner on Francis between Main and 10th Street.

"We want to encourage community members to come and give us input on the proposed closure before it is presented to the Ada City Council," Forshay said.
