ADA, Okla. – East Central University revived a piece of university history last week when Tiger Tangles made its long-awaited return to campus.

After a decades long absence, the once-popular talent show, was brought back to life. More than 800 people filled Ataloa Theatre to watch ECU students showcase their talents.

Bringing back Tiger Tangles was a goal for ECU president Wendell Godwin.

“Our students are amazing and it was a great night to showcase the best of ECU.” said Godwin. “We are excited and we cannot wait until next year for Tiger Tangles – Save the Date February 27 & 28, 2025!”

Jamie Davis, the technical director and events coordinator for the Hallie Brown Ford Fines Arts Center, along with a team of ECU staff, faculty and students, oversaw the event which saw 20 different acts perform in 4 categories with first, second and third place being award to each based on the results from three impartial judges. An overall winner was also chosen by the judges and a crowd choice winner was chosen by the crowd in attendance.

“Thank you for being a part of history, Tiger Tangles is alive and well!” Davis declared to close out the night.

Greek:

  • 1st - Chi Omega

  • 2nd - Phi Tau

ECU Club/Org:

  • 1st - Asian Student Association 

  • 2nd - ECU Showtime

  • 3rd - ECU Drumline

Independent Group:

  • 1st - The High Notes

  • 2nd - The Prozac Boys

  • 3rd - Gettin' Groovy Gals

Solo:

  • 1st - Ava Manwell

  • 2nd - Jacob Williams

  • 3rd - Akshata Pokhrel

Overall Winner: Ava Manwell

Crowd Choice Award: Chi Omega

The participants ranged from a second generation “Tiger Tangler,” experienced performers who perform independently or on behalf of ECU to students who were performing in front of a crowd for the very first time. Regardless of the level of experience, each performance was met with strong ovation and excitement.
