About the Institute for Math and Science Education (IMSE)
Founded in 2017, the Institute for Math and Science Education (IMSE) is a division of the ECU Department of Education. IMSE fosters collaboration between educators and professionals in math, science, technology, and STEM education. The institute is guided by a dedicated director and an advisory board that meets regularly to evaluate and enhance program impact.
IMSE Training & Opportunities
IMSE offers engaging, hands-on experiences for students and professional development for educators, including:
- Inquiry-based activities for students of all ages
- STEM-focused professional development for educators in science, math, engineering, and technology
- Customized STEM workshops tailored to individual school or district needs
- One-on-one training and support for early-career teachers

The Institute for Math & Science Education at East Central University strives to enhance the quality of math and science instruction in local schools and develop outstanding educators actively engaged in our program.
Our Mission
We are committed to supporting math and science education through the following goals:
- Deliver high-quality professional development in math, science, and STEM-integrated
teaching.
Support schools across Oklahoma in achieving excellence in math, science, and technology education - Equip ECU math and science education majors with innovative, research-based teaching strategies
- Recruit and inspire high-achieving high school students to pursue careers in math and science education
- Collaborate with and strengthen existing STEM initiatives within ECU’s Department of Education
