Accident, Serious Injury, or Illness Policy

East Central University prioritizes the health and safety of its students, employees, and visitors. In the event of an accident, serious injury, or sudden illness occurring on campus, the following procedures must be followed:

Emergency Response

  • Call 911 immediately in the event of a life-threatening emergency.
  • Contact ECU Campus Police at 580-559-5555
  • Do not attempt to move the injured or ill person unless they are in immediate danger.

Accident or Injury Reporting

  • Any accident or injury involving students, faculty, staff, or visitors must be reported as soon as possible.
  • Employees should notify their immediate supervisor and Employment Services.
  • Students should report incidents to Student Affairs or Campus Police.

Medical Attention

  • If immediate medical assistance is required, emergency responders will transport the individual to the appropriate medical facility.
  • Non-emergency injuries or illnesses may be referred to a local healthcare provider or clinic.
  • ECU employees may be eligible for workers’ compensation when injured in the course of performing job duties.

Follow-Up

  • An incident report must be completed and submitted to Employment Services.
  • University officials may initiate a follow-up investigation to ensure safety protocols were followed and to prevent future incidents.

Confidentiality

All medical and personal information related to accidents, injuries, or illnesses will be handled in accordance with HIPAA and FERPA regulations, and with the utmost confidentiality.
