Emergency Notification System
In the event of an emergency, ECU will issue alerts through multiple communication channels:
- ECU Tiger Alert – Text and email notifications
- ECU Website and Social Media – Real-time updates
- University Email – Official messages to students, faculty, and staff
Immediate Actions: Run. Hide. Fight.
RUN – Evacuate if it is safe to do so
- Use a clear escape route; evacuate immediately.
- Leave personal belongings behind.
- Warn others as you exit.
- Do not stop to help wounded individuals.
- Call 911 when safe. Give details: location, description, and weapon(s).
HIDE – Shelter in place if evacuation is not possible
- Find a secure room; lock and barricade the door.
- Turn off lights and silence all electronics.
- Hide behind large furniture and remain quiet.
- Stay out of view from doors and windows.
- Administer first aid only if trained and safe to do so.
FIGHT – As a last resort
- Prepare to defend yourself if confronted.
- Use available objects (e.g., fire extinguishers, chairs) as weapons.
- Act decisively and with full force.
- Disarm and disable the shooter if possible.
