Job Title:          Vice President for Student Affairs

SUMMARY:

The Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA) is the senior student services officer at the University. The VPSA provides vision, leadership, and management for the division of Student Affairs. As the chief advocate for the student body, the VPSA articulates the challenges that face ECU students to the President’s Cabinet.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential duties and responsibilities may include the following:

·         Oversees the following units and initiatives:

o    Student Engagement

o    Conduct

o    Career Services

o    Residence Life

o    Student Health & Counseling Services

o    Selected TRIO Programs

·         Provides leadership through:

o    Staff development

o    Budget management

o    Resource allocation

o    Strategic planning

o    Policy-making

o    Crisis-response

·         Stays current on best practices in Student Affairs and advises the campus community on those practices as needed;

·         Analyzes current and future student programs and determines progress/viability;

·         Administers committees focused on the health and overall well-being of students;

·         Ensures compliance with University and governing boards;

·         Creates reports and communications;

·         Supports student retention efforts;

·         Serves as a Title IX Investigator as needed;

·         Fosters an environment that supports the holistic development of students through extracurricular programming and activities; and

·         Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the President.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

·         Proven managerial and collegial leadership skills;

·         Excellent writing and communication skills;

·         Knowledge and experience in the latest innovations in Student Affairs;

·         Problem-solving capabilities;

·         Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the President 

·         Ability to assess Student Affairs programs and determine progress and viability of those programs;

·         Ability to relate to and work with students, faculty, and staff;

·         Ability and knowledge of Student Information Systems; and

·         Understanding of Title IX.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Required: Earned doctorate in higher education, counseling, the social sciences, or a related field and a minimum of 5 years of progressively successful administrative experiences in Student Affairs supervision and budget development.
