Dear Campus Community,

First, my appreciation to each and every one of you in the Tiger Family for your efforts to lessen the spread of COVID-19 on our campus. ECU experienced a low number of cases this past year. Your observation with the mask mandate, social distancing, and hygiene efforts made the year a success.

Our duty to slow the spread of the COVID-19 variants continues. Many faculty, staff, and students are fully vaccinated.  We believe there are others who would like the opportunity to be fully vaccinated.

The Pontotoc County Health Department will be on campus tomorrow, August 19, in the Regents Room in the Memorial Student Union from 9:00 a.m. until the afternoon or until there are no longer any folks seeking the vaccine for the day. All three types of vaccines will be available. If you have not been vaccinated, we urge you to take time to visit the clinic on campus tomorrow, August 19, or seek a vaccination at the Pontotoc County Health Department or at the Chickasaw Nation vaccine clinic.

As a way to express our appreciation for those who are already vaccinated, and to strongly encourage vaccinations, we are offering the following incentive:

  • If 70% of the faculty, staff, and students (based on census in September) are fully vaccinated by October 13, we will extend Thanksgiving break to include Tuesday (November 23-26).

  • If 80% of the campus community is fully vaccinated, we will add Monday to the Thanksgiving break, allowing for a full week, November 22-26.

Employees will upload a scanned copy of their vaccination card in eTrieve. The benefits coordinator will verify the vaccination. Students will upload a scanned copy of their vaccination card into a “vaccination” course on Blackboard. The director of the health services center will verify the vaccination. More information on uploading your documents will be sent next week.

Working as a team, we will be able to provide greater protection for one another against this insidious virus.
