Did You Know?
- Five ECU alumni have served as governors:
- Robert S. Kerr – Governor and U.S. Senator for Oklahoma; ran for President in 1952.
- George Nigh – Longtime Oklahoma Governor.
- Ernest McFarland – Arizona Governor and U.S. Senator.
- Bill Anoatubby – Governor of the Chickasaw Nation.
- Jefferson Keel – Lt. Governor of the Chickasaw Nation.
- Lyle Boren, ECU alumnus, served in the U.S. House of Representatives.
- Gil Morgan, ECU graduate, won over 30 PGA Tour events and earned more than $20 million in his career.
- Clifford Thrift, ECU All-American linebacker, played for the 1986 Super Bowl Champion Chicago Bears.
- Kevin Turner, School of Business alum, became VP of Walmart at age 32, later CFO of Sam’s Club, and COO of Microsoft.
- Coach Brad Calip, ECU Hall of Fame quarterback, was inducted into the National College Football Hall of Fame in 2003.
- Leon Polk Smith, a pioneer in American abstract art, was an ECU graduate.
- Harland Stonecipher, founder of Pre-Paid Legal Services Inc., is an ECU alum.
- Kitt Wakeley, a 1993 ECU graduate, is a two-time Grammy® Award winner and four-time nominee. He’s an artist, composer, and producer with seven #1 Billboard hits and 21 top-10 charting songs.
Academic Excellence
- Legal Studies: ECU is the only public university in Oklahoma offering a B.S. in Legal Studies.
- Environmental Health Science: ECU offers Oklahoma’s only accredited B.S. in this field.
- Medical Physics: One of few universities nationwide to offer a bachelor’s in Medical Physics.
- Nursing: ECU’s nursing students have a 95%+ NCLEX pass rate over the past five years.
- Collegiate Officer Program: First in Oklahoma, this program lets students earn police certification while earning a degree.
- McNair Scholars Program: Prepares underrepresented students for doctoral study, honoring astronaut Dr. Ronald McNair.
