English majors develop broad cultural awareness and advanced reading and writing skills through studies of poetry, drama, fiction, film, and critical theory.  Additional studies of creative and persuasive writing and grammar and linguistics prepare students for graduate study in literature, rhetoric, and composition, creative or technical writing, linguistics, or for the study of law.  Students also obtain professional writing skills which ready them for “real world” jobs such as social media writing, grant writing, editing, and publishing.  Many of our students are awarded full-rides to graduate school and others are successfully employed at companies such as Google, Lockheed Martin, and the Chickasaw Nation.
