All scholarships require full-time attendance (12 hours for undergraduate; 6 hours for graduate) unless indicated otherwise.
All scholarships require a 3.0 cumulative GPA unless indicated otherwise.
All scholarships are for fall and/or spring semester only (summer not included) unless indicated otherwise.
All Physics scholarship recipients are selected by the department, with final approval by the ECU Foundation Scholarship Committee.
Any exceptions must be approved by the department chair and the Foundation Scholarship Committee.


1950’S SCIENCE FUND (physics—also awarded to biology and math)
This scholarship will be awarded to a junior or senior biology student who has maintained a minimum 2.75 GPA. Preference will be given to students who do not qualify for significant federal financial aid.
This scholarship was established by an anonymous donor who is an ECU alumnus and who has had a long career in the medical field. 

BRILES SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded based on need and a minimum 2.5 GPA. Originally established as part of the Federal Student Loan Program, this scholarship was transferred to the ECU Foundation in 1995.

DR. JOHN BULMAN CENTENNIAL ENDOWMENT
This scholarship will be awarded at the discretion of the physics department.  Dr. Bulman was a long-time faculty member and administrator at ECU, and this scholarship was established in his honor and memory by family, friends, and colleagues.

DCT COLLEGE OF HEALTH AND SCIENCES CENTENNIAL ENDOWMENT
This scholarship will be available to all students in the College of Health and Sciences, with priority given to students pursuing a master’ degree in a discipline housed in the College of Health and Sciences at the time of the award.  Recipient must maintain a minimum 3.25 GPA and be classified as a junior or above.  To receive this scholarship, applicants must provide a plan for a community service project (preferably a project that benefits the Ada community), that will be completed during their junior year, and that is verified by a mentoring faculty member.  Preference will be given to students providing evidence of community service during their freshman/sophomore year(s).  For the scholarship to be renewed during the students’ senior year, they must complete a community service project in collaboration with mentoring a faculty member during their junior year or the student must have presented the activities and results of one of their previous community service projects at a state, regional, national, or international conference during their junior year and provide an acceptable update for the current service project.

HIGGINBOTHAM FAMILY PHYSICS SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded at the discretion of the physics department. Dorothy Higginbotham was an ECU alumna who understood and recognized the value of higher education, and established this scholarship as part of her estate planning.

BROWN MACKIN SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded at discretion of the physics department.  Dr. Mackin was a long-time faculty member at ECU, and this scholarship was established in his honor and memory by family, friends, and colleagues. 

PHYSICS CENTENNIAL ENDOWMENT
This scholarship will be awarded at discretion of the physics department.

ESSIE ROARK COLLEGE OF HEALTH AND SCIENCES CENTENNIAL ENDOWMENT
This scholarship will be available to all students in the College of Health and Sciences, with priority given to students pursuing a master’ degree in a discipline housed in the College of Health and Sciences at the time of the award.  Recipient must maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA and be classified as a junior or above.  To receive this scholarship, applicants must provide a plan for a research project that will be completed during their junior year and that is verified by a mentoring faculty member. JOANN AND EDWARD SMITH PHYSICS SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to a student enrolled in the medical physics program. This scholarship was established in honor and memory of the Smith's, and is funded yearly by family members. 

STRINGFIELD CENTENNIAL PHYSICS ENDOWMENT
This scholarship will be awarded at discretion of the physics department. Mr. and Mrs. Stringfield are generous alums and they established this scholarship to assist students who are obtaining a degree in physics.

DOUG WILLIAMS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to a full-time student with a declared major of physics or pre-engineering (not medical physics), who has completed at least 3 physics courses and has maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or above.  This scholarship was established by Dr. Karen A. Williams, ECU physics professor, in memory of her father.
