The East Central University Family and Consumer Science Department, in partnership with local retail businesses, will be hosting a fashion show and workshop, April 22, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Dorothy Summers Theatre on the ECU campus. 

The stores showcasing their clothing are: Bella Ragazza, Cato Fashions, Twenty-Five Trading Company, Serendipity, Sharpe’s, Stage and The Rage. There will also be engaging workshops for Family and Consumer Science students from across the state. These students are part of the Oklahoma Career Technology System. 

“The purpose of this event is to promote ECU Family and Consumer Sciences to high school and potential college students from across the state,” said Jan Long, ECU Family and Consumer Science instructor.

Interactive workshops will be conducted throughout the morning, covering the following topics: Repurposing Furniture by Heather Mercer; Healthy Cooking by Katrina Lewis and Tiffany Grant from the Chickasaw Nation Nutrition Services; Enriching Activities for Infants, Toddlers and Preschoolers by Laura Presley and Personal Styling; a hands on workshop by senior Retail Merchandising students Melissa Townsend and Ashlyn Murdaugh and “We All Have A Story, Write Your Own Ending” by Wendell Godwin, dean of ECU’s Harland C. Stonecipher School of Business.

Tours of the Family and Consumer Science Department, Stonecipher School of Business and ECU campus will be held. 

“Family and Consumer Sciences offer a wide variety of careers choices and the need for graduates is great,” Long said. “Through dynamic engagement and collaboration with high school and college students, the FCS Department hopes to showcase what can be accomplished with a FCS degree at East Central University.”
