ECU CELEBRATES EARTH DAY

Hands-on and visual demonstrations of water and environment-related issues helped students focus on the importance of water to society and local communities during the seventh Annual Ada Water Festival/Earth Day at East Central University.

RANDY GRINNELL, AUGUST PETERSEN NAMED ECU'S DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI FOR 2010

The deputy director for the federal government's Indian Health Service and a successful Texas businessman and educator will be honored as East Central University's Distinguished Alumni for 2010 during Commencement ceremonies May 8 [SATURDAY] in Kerr Activities Center.

FLUTIST JULIANA OVERMIER PERFORMING FOR ADA'S FIRST FRIDAY SERIES

Flutist Juliana Overmier will perform a concert for the Ada Arts and Heritage Center's First Friday series at noon May 7 [FRIDAY] at the center, 14th and Rennie.

Accompanying at the piano will be Dr. Starla Hibler, professor of music at East Central University. They will perform works by Sadao Bekku, Salamon Jadassohn, Rhené-Baton and Giulio Briccialdi.

ADA TO HOST TOWN HALL MEETING FOR THE ARTS

The Oklahoma Arts Council is partnering with East Central University and the Ada Arts District to host a Town Hall Meeting for the Arts in Ada on May 4 [TUESDAY]. The town hall meeting will be held on the ECU campus in the Regents Room of the Memorial Student Union.

ECU HOSTING McALESTER AREA REUNION SATURDAY

A McAlester Area Reunion for alumni of East Central University will be held Saturday [MAY 1] at Angel's Diner, 1402 S. George Nigh Expressway. The reunion will begin at 6 p.m.

ECU SYMPHONIC BAND, WIND ENSEMBLE FEATURING GUEST, STUDENT CONDUCTORS IN THURSDAY CONCERT

Twelve students will conduct East Central University's Symphonic Band in its spring concert Thursday [APRIL 29] in the Ataloa Theatre in the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center. The select Wind Ensemble will be conducted by ECU Band Director Allen Correll and guest conductor Dean Coale.

The free concert will begin at 8 p.m. and is open to the public.

SHOWTIME PERFORMING FRIDAY, THANKING NEW YORK TRIP SUPPORTERS

SHOWTIME, East Central University's musical theatre performing group, will present its Grand Finale' concert/cabaret "thank you New York" program at 8 p.m. Friday [APRIL 30] in the Estep Multimedia Center in the Bill S. Cole University Center.

The group also will show slides and video from their trip to New York City where SHOWTIME members studied at Julliard and New York University, the sights they saw and what they brought back.

LAUREN HENSLEY TO RECEIVE GEORGE NIGH AWARD WEDNESDAY AT ECU

An East Central University student who says her parents taught her that hard work, determination, a positive attitude and a kind heart would take her anywhere worth going has been named the 2010 recipient of the prestigious George Nigh Award as ECU's top graduating senior.

ECU DANCE CONCERT REMEMBERING MICHAEL JACKSON

Dance students at East Central University will focus on "Remembering the Man" as they pay tribute to the late Michael Jackson in their spring dance concert Friday and Saturday [APRIL 23-24].

ECU JAZZ ENSEMBLE, FACULTY JAZZ COMBO PERFORMING TUESDAY

The East Central University Jazz Ensemble and a Faculty Jazz Combo will perform at 7:30pm Tuesday [APRIL 20] in the Arthur J. Kennedy Band Hall in the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center. The concert is free and open to the public.
