CHAPEL TO REMAIN UNCHANGED WHILE ECU REVIEWS REQUEST

 East Central University announced it is immediately withdrawing its efforts to remove religious icons from the historic Kathryn P. Boswell Memorial Chapel. The action was in response to a recent letter from the Washington, D.C.-based Americans United for Separation of Church and State letter to the state university. 
“We moved too quickly,” said Katricia Pierson, ECU president. “We regret not taking time to pause and thoughtfully consider the request and the results of our actions on all of the students, faculty and community members who we serve.”

ECU CLOSED IN OBSERVANCE OF INDEPENDENCE DAY

ADA – East Central University offices will close at noon today, Friday June 30, and not reopen until Wednesday, July 5, at 7:30 a.m. in observance of the Independence Day.

OKA’ INSTITUTE INTERN LINN RECEIVES REMOTE PILOT LICENSE TO FLY DRONES FOR WATER STUDY PURPOSES

Michael Linn, the unmanned aerial systems intern for The Oka’ Institute at East Central University, received his official unmanned aircraft systems remote pilot license.

This certification allows Linn to fly drones for non-hobby purposes.

The goal of the airman certification process is to ensure the applicant possesses knowledge consistent with the privileges of the Remote Pilot Certificate with a small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) rating being exercised, as well as the ability to manage the risks of flight in order to act as a remote pilot-in-command (PIC).

EDWARDS NAMED MARKETING, COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST FOR ECU’S OKA’ INSTITUTE

The Oka’ Institute, at East Central University, has announced the addition of a marketing and communications specialist.

Morgan Edwards, from Moore and a recent graduate from ECU, joined the Oka’ Institute fulltime in May.

Edwards graduated with a degree in business administration with a concentration in marketing, as well as receiving a business certificate in promotions management. She has been with The Oka’ Institute since August of 2016, where she served as an intern with a specialty in marketing.

ECU POLICE DEPARTMEMT RECEIVES GRANT FOR TWO DEFIBRILLATORS

A $4,400 grant from the Mercy Health Foundation of Ada and the Valley View Foundation enables the East Central University Police Department to have two automated external defibrillators (AEDs) for use in campus emergency situations. The defibrillators will be available for someone who has sudden cardiac arrest. It will be an effective treatment for restoring heart rhythm, according to Todd Essary with Mercy Health Foundation Ada. One of the defibrillators is mounted on the wall in the ECU Police Department and the other will be in a patrol car.

NEW RESIDENCE HALL PLANNED FOR ECU

A new residence hall is on the horizon for East Central University.

With the help of a $10 million bond through the Oklahoma Development Finance Authority’s Master Real Property Lease Program, ECU is projected to have a new residence hall on campus by the fall of 2018.

The residence hall is being paid for through the Master Lease program issued through the Oklahoma Development Finance Authority. The ODFA issues the bonds for this program that are secured by a lease with the Oklahoma Regents for Higher Education and by a sub-lease through ECU.

SIXTY NEW MEMBERS INDUCTED INTO ECU’S ALPHA CHI NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY FOR SPRING 2017

Sixty new members were inducted into the Oklahoma Gamma Chapter of the Alpha Chi National Honor Society at East Central University this past spring in ECU Foundation Hall of the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center.

GLOBAL RETAIL EXECUTIVE J. MICHAEL PRINCE PRESENTED WITH ECU DISTINGUISHED ALUMNUS AWARD

J. Michael Prince, a global retail executive who has worked in senior leadership positions with some of the most iconic sports and fashion brands in the world, was the recipient of East Central University’s Distinguished Alumnus Award during a recent reception held in his honor.

An Ada native and graduate of Latta High School, Prince has taken leadership positions with renowned brands such as Nike, Cole Hann, Converse, Hurley, Guess? and Umbro.
