ECU FRESHMAN RECEIVES SCHOLARSHIP FROM SASAP

Eathen Graham of Coalgate, a freshman at East Central University and a four-year member of ECU's Upward Bound Program, has received a $500 scholarship from the Southwest Association of Student Assistance Programs.

The association works toward educational opportunity for students in federal TRIO programs, which includes the Upward Bound program, and supports activities that enable participants to achieve their educational goals.

FREE CLASSES AT ECU OFFER INTRODUCTION TO YOGA

Adults in Ada can sample a free yoga class at East Central University on Sept. 6 [SATURDAY] during Yoga Month 09.2008.

Sponsored by ECU's Center of Continuing Education & Community Services, three introductory classes will be offered at three ability levels. No experience is necessary. The classes will be held in the atrium on the first floor of the University Center.

ECU FACULTY PERFORMING THURSDAY AT ARTS AND HERITAGE CENTER

Faculty members from East Central University's Department of Music will open the concert season Thursday [AUG. 28] with standard works from the 20th Century.

The free concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Ada Arts and Heritage Center, 14th and Rennie Sts. Composers include Milton Babbitt, Alberto Ginastera, Anton Webern, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Iannis Xenakis, Benjamin Britten, Paul Desmond and Alexandre Therepnine.

EAST CENTRAL UNIVERSITY HIRES NEW FACULTY MEMBERS

New instructors in accounting, business administration, communications, education, English and languages, history, kinesiology, legal studies, mathematics, nursing and psychology have joined the faculty at East Central University. In addition, a facilities coordinator has been hired for the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.

WOMEN'S-ONLY WEIGHT LOSS CLASSES BEGIN IN SEPTEMBER AT ECU

Two women's-only team weight loss classes will begin in September at East Central University's Tommy Hewett M.D. Wellness Center. Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays before and after work hours.

Each class will be limited to five women and will offer a circuit-style format that includes strength training, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility and nutrition education. Nationally certified personal trainer Arron Edwards, NSC-CPT, will lead the classes.

LOCAL BUSINESSES ENCOURAGED TO PARTICIPATE IN ECU WELCOME WEEK

Local businesses are welcome to participate in East Central University's Howdy Fair on Monday [AUG. 18], the first day of fall semester classes. Businesses will have an opportunity to acquaint students with their services from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the University Center lawn.

The Howdy Fair is part of ECU's Welcome Week from Monday through Aug. 22 [FRIDAY]. In past years the businesses have provided "welcome goodies" for students.

ECU COLLECTING STORIES, MEMORABILIA TO PREPARE FOR CENTENNIAL

East Central University is looking for artifacts, memorabilia and stories to commemorate its history as the university prepares to celebrate its centennial in 2009.

Examples of ECU artifacts and memorabilia include photographs of campus events, postcards, pennants, copies of early diplomas, event programs, scrapbooks, newspaper articles and books written by alumni and/or faculty.

ECU DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION HONORS TOP STUDENTS

The top graduates were named by East Central University's Department of Business Administration and scholarships were presented to students in an awards ceremony this spring.

Distinguished Business Administration Graduate awards were presented to Matt Harp of Ada, a business administration/general business major, and Carrie Welch of Stonewall, a business administration/finance major.

ECU ENROLLMENT UNDERWAY BEFORE CLASSES BEGIN AUG. 18

Regular walk-in enrollment for the fall semester at East Central University is underway until classes begin on Aug. 18 [MONDAY].

Beginning freshmen who have not yet applied for admission to the university must have their application paperwork turned in and processed by the Office of Admissions and Records before Aug. 15 [FRIDAY]. Once new students are registered, they should go to the Academic Advising Center any weekday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

ECU EARNS AWARDS IN STATE PUBLIC RELATIONS COMPETITION

ECU's Communications and Marketing Department garnered six awards during the annual competition of the Oklahoma College Public Relations Association. The department includes Amy Ford, director; Jill Frye, assistant director; Gina Smith, marketing coordinator; Ryan Wetherill, web manager; and Susan Ingram, administrative assistant.
