BETTY PARHAM TO RECEIVE ENTREPRENEUR OF YEAR AWARD FROM ECU

By next August, Betty Ely Parham will have worked 65 years in the credit profession, all in Ada. This Thursday [MAY 5] she will be named the Entrepreneur of the Year at East Central University’s annual Leonard Limes Endowed Lecture in Entrepreneurship.        

“I didn’t even know how to spell it,” Parham said with a laugh. “I’m just a small town business owner.”          

VETERANS CAN TAKE FREE LEAD-SAFE CERTIFICATION CLASS IN MUSKOGEE

A free class on May 12 and 13 will certify eligible Muskogee-area veterans to work for contractors performing renovation, repair and painting projects that disturb lead-based paint.

The Veterans Workforce Investment Program at East Central University in Ada has joined with the Oklahoma Association of Community Action Agencies to offer the EPA Lead-Safe Certification Program at the Muskogee Workforce Office at 717 S. 32nd St.

FREE GREEN ENERGY JOB TRAINING AVAILABLE TO VETERANS

Eligible veterans can receive free green energy job training in a four-week class beginning May 2 [MONDAY] in Oklahoma City.           

East Central University’s Veterans Workforce Investment Program will offer a Green Pre-Construction Trades Academy through May 27 through a partnership with the Western Oklahoma Electrical Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee at 1700 S.E. 15 in Oklahoma City.           

OKLAHOMA TEACHERS OF THE YEAR NAMED ECU’S DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI

Two educators who have brought distinction to East Central University as Oklahoma Teachers of the Year will be honored as the university’s Distinguished Alumni for 2011 during Commencement ceremonies May 7 [SATURDAY] in Kerr Activities Center.

ECU NAMES PIERSON ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT FOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

Dr. Katricia Guyn Pierson has been named East Central University’s assistant vice president for academic affairs, effective July 1. Her appointment was approved Friday [APRIL 15] by the Board of Regents of the Regional University System of Oklahoma.

ECU MUSIC STUDENT WINS COMPETITION IN SAN DIEGO

Angela Marshall of McAlester, a senior music major at East Central University, was named the winner of the Alexander A. Bendazzi/Strayer University Prize for Art/Music/Dance Papers recently at the national convention of Alpha Chi national college honor society in San Diego. She received a monetary award as her prize.
