ECU POLICE CHIEF ATTENDS INSTITUTE ON VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

Bert Miller, chief of East Central University's Police Department, was one of 24 law enforcement executives from across the country selected to participate in a National Campus Law Enforcement Leadership Institute on Violence Against Women in Austin, Texas.

16 ECU STUDENTS AWARDED FUNDING BY NASA NATIONAL SPACE GRANT

Sixteen ECU students have been awarded funding under the NASA National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program for the 2009-2010 academic year.

The awards are competitive and applications are reviewed by a committee on campus. Awards are in the form of scholarship and research stipends and range from $350 to $2,000 for the academic year.

ECU'S CHRISTINA ISOM NAMED BRAD HENRY INTERNATIONAL SCHOLAR

Christina Isom of Lehigh, a senior at East Central University in Ada, is one of six students from Oklahoma's regional universities who have been named Brad Henry International Scholars and will spend the fall semester at Swansea University in Wales.

FACULTY SHOWCASE MONDAY FEATURING ECU MUSIC FACULTY

Faculty Showcase, a concert featuring members of East Central University's Music Department, will open the season at 7:30 p.m. Monday [AUG. 30] at the Arts and Heritage Center, 14th and Rennie. Admission is free.

Performers include Mark Hollingsworth, Starla Hibler, Alan Marshall, Melody Baggech, Juliana Overmier, Ben Finley, Mike Whitmore, Skye Garcia and Susanne Woolley. The concert will feature works by Liszt, Tailleferre, Thomas, Hogan and other composers.

KARIN PERRY NEW GRANT ADMINISTRATOR AT EAST CENTRAL UNIVERSITY

Dr. Karin M. Perry, the former library media specialist at Whittier Middle School in Norman, has been named project administrator of the Westward Expansion Grant at East Central University in Ada.

NEW FACULTY MEMBERS BEGIN TEACHING AT ECU

New faculty members with a wide range of expertise have begun teaching this fall at East Central University. Classes began Monday [AUG. 16].

ART SUPPLY STORE OPENS MONDAY IN ARTS DISTRICT INCUBATOR

The first business in the new East Main Enterprise and Incubator will open Monday [AUG. 16] at 808 E. Main in the Arts District of Ada.

Red Earth Art Supply, the only local retailer of fine art supplies, will be ready for art students' first day of classes at East Central University as well as supply artists in the area, said owner Erin Wetherill.

ECU PLANS REUNION AUG. 13 FOR ADA AREA ALUMNI

East Central University's Ada Area Alumni Reunion will begin at 6 p.m. Aug. 13 [FRIDAY] at Vintage 22, 800 E. Main St.

'WORST JOB' SPURS VETERAN TO ENROLL AT ECU, THANKS TO VETERANS UPWARD BOUND PROGRAM

Sometimes it takes a less-than-desirable job to spur someone to consider going to college.

That's what happened to Steven Fisher, an Air Force veteran who wanted a career, not just a job, but didn't know how to get started until he heard about the Veterans Upward Bound Program at East Central University.
